I’ve been much too poor to even tease myself by browsing Craigslist for months now, but I decided I needed the motivation. A few gems available right now.

I suspect the low price on this Scrambler (and the photos taken at night) mean the frame is rusty. Still would be tempting.

CJ-2A. Very early one. WHY MUST I BE BROKE ? (And of course it would need a new paint job, man that’s ugly.)

Terrible photos, broken engine (but comes with two), but the magic words: no structural rust.

And last and least, a Commander, but it’s dirt cheap. Quite curious why. I’d rather have an XJ, but Commanders usually haven’t been thrashed as badly.

And while I’m here anyway: an S2000 for under 10k!

I’ve always liked the Commanders because they look like a big XJ. But that is a big suv to have a gutless 3.7 v6. Would not want.

I’ve got a regular cab 2007 Ram 1500 with that engine, gutless is being generous.

I’d definitely want the V8, but do I actually need it? No, just having a fixed roof and 4 doors would be nice.

There’s a white (ugh) XJ not far from my house for $1600 right now...

I wonder if this is why it’s cheaper than one might expect. There are lots of folks who’d like a jeep for whom an engine swap would be a road too far and who want “powaaa”.

Is that a good “oof” or a bad “oof”? I didn’t pay attention to the mods, so I have no idea whether it’s been enhanced or broken.

(Not that I’d have a clue regardless.)

That’s probably the highest mileage s2k in existence.

Bah. It’s a Honda before their current era of quality decline.

That Scrambler says it’s in Lebanon, Ohio!??

That’s my town! I haven’t ever seen it driving around or parked anywhere, though...

You should check it out. Tell them someone in Indy is interested (which is entirely true).

I had a Commander as an Uber last month. The driver said he had acquired it earlier this year for driving on the sand on Nantucket, but there was a snowstorm, so he was using it instead of his normal car. It had a sticker over the check engine light (which was lit), but the panel read “check gas cap” or similar, so maybe not too much was broken. There’s some monster speed bumps leaving my area, and he didn’t see the first one until he was right on top of it, which probably wasn’t great for the suspension.

It’s not so much a knock on the car as it is amazement that someone would put 285k on a high strung sports car.

But things do wear down and that’s the big reason it’s so cheap.
